Hi, I’m Aliciacoder, and welcome to my blog! I’ve been a medical coder for over six years, and during that time I’ve worked in hospitals, emergency departments, and professional practices. I hold the CBCS, CPC, and CPMA certifications, and I specialize in professional fee (Pro-Fee) coding while also having experience with facility ED coding.

I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the confusing sides of coding, and now I want to share what I’ve learned with you. Whether you’re brand new to medical coding or you’re exploring it as a career option, this blog (and my YouTube channel) will guide you step by step.

What Exactly Is Medical Coding?

Medical coding is the process of translating healthcare services, doctor visits, lab tests, procedures, and treatments into standardized codes. These codes are used for billing, insurance claims, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Think of coders as the bridge between healthcare providers and insurance companies. Without accurate coding, providers don’t get paid correctly, patients may be billed incorrectly, and healthcare data wouldn’t be reliable.

Why Medical Coding Matters

  • Insurance Billing: Coders make sure claims are accurate, so providers get reimbursed.

  • Patient Care: Clear records ensure continuity of care and data accuracy.

  • Compliance: Coding must meet legal and ethical standards. mistakes can cost providers money and even lead to audits.

Who Should Learn Medical Coding?

Medical coding is a great path if you:

  • Want a stable career in healthcare without direct patient care.

  • Are detail-oriented and like problem-solving.

  • Are preparing for certifications like CPC, CPMA, or CBCS.

  • Are already in healthcare and want to expand your skills.

What You Can Expect Here

On this blog (and my YouTube channel), I’ll cover:

  • The basics of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems

  • Exam prep tips for certifications

  • Insights into life as a medical coder

My goal is to make coding clear, approachable, and even a little fun.
